Hi! Hope you all are having a great Sunday:)
I have been considering the idea of writing some short pieces when I have time, focusing on classic horror from the 70s, 80s, and possibly early 90s. I want to give it a name, but it just can't roll off the tip of my tongue properly. It's a feeling, an experience. I remember going to late-night horror flicks at Coolidge Corner, usually alone or with a friend, and watching the funniest and quirkiest things that just made for a good time. I did the same thing at the Kingston Theater back in college. It's not a nostalgic vibe because I never lived in those eras. It's not something that would frighten me terribly or force me to look away in disgust. It was an era of horror that made you walk out of the theater with a smile, thinking, 'that was a riot of a time.'
Again, I feel the need to double down and repeat: I am not talking about scary or awful films that heighten anxiety. I would not be covering films that are graphic in nature or disturbing. I would be looking at films like this:
This is Jackie Kong's 1987 "Blood Diner." Watch this hilarious scene and let me know what you think? I remember going to see this alone at Coolidge and laughing my face off.
I have seen so many good horror flicks with my dad and certain friends over the years; I just know you would love them. They are easygoing. I think I could be of aid to you readers/listeners. Anyways, I am going to try and put some words on a page this week and see if I can write something that captures this kind of horror and vibe, whether it's at Coolidge or your local cinema.
I will also mention any upcoming gems playing in my go-to cities: Montreal & Boston.
Oh one other thing: women in horror circa 1970s = the best time ever. I will definitely be talking about them. Go girls.
Have a great week. Remember what a friend once said: you can laugh about it or your can cry about it! Work hard.
Should Charlie Start writing a sub-blog on silly horror gems?
Yes
No. You suck & need to make a pivot table.
