There is a cascade of films this weekend, starting with the hot topic of “Hunger Games: Ballad Of Songbirds And Snakes.” This film is expected to have a mild opening weekend. Obviously, there is nowhere near the amount of hype that the original trilogy had, and that is fine. It is more or less a spinoff. Tapping back into the previous article about the Hollywood Paradigm Shift, “Hunger Games: Ballad Of Songbirds And Snakes” will feel the reckoning.
Specifically, Hunger Games will deliver a soft opening of $58 million. It will open in an estimated 3,700 theaters. This is a wide scale opening, none of which should be taken lightly. It appears that Lionsgate is pouring a lot of eggs into this basket.
Next up, we have “Trolls Band Together” forecasting a solid $37 million opening weekend. This film has followed in the footsteps of “Paw Patrol: The Movie.” “Paw Patrol” had a budget of roughly $30 million to produce and ended up grossing $140 million globally. With that being said, roughly a quarter or more of its budget went towards marketing. It paid off.
“Trolls” held early access shows a few weeks ago, and the film received encouraging reviews. The path that the film has paved thus far could prove smooth and beneficial. The only issue is longevity at the box office. Don’t forget, Disney’s “Wish” opens on November 22, 2023.
Finally, Eli Roth’s “Thanksgiving” is what Ambler’s Cut presumes to be a pretty decent hit. Specifically, the film is believed to rake in $13.5 million.
For starters, it is going to run “Five Nights at Freddy's” right off the grid. “Thanksgiving” will force FNAF to plummet roughly 72%. Why? It is because if young theater-goers wish to see an original horror film, they are going to go with the latest! This is something that has an edge, sharp corners, unknown aspects, and most of all - it has risk. Spyglass Entertainment, with Sony Entertainment, is going to serve up a staunch situation when they deliver substantial revenue streams this weekend.
Coming in fourth on the charts is “The Marvels” at $12,500,000.00. An astonishing drop? More like a predictable tumble. This film is bound to fall roughly 73%. This is simply because any original viewership has already drifted towards “Hunger Games.”
Again, the magic has faded from that film before it could even start.
“Next Goal Wins” is a film that could very well go against any wave and make a very good portion of what is to be made this weekend. This film will not last long in the theaters, however. The film, brought to you by Searchlight Pictures, is going to either lift off or fall flat. There is not much momentum behind this kickoff!
"Next Goal Wins" will try and break $4.0 million its opening weekend.
